A monitor with WiFi antennas? It already exists and is from ASRock

Lately we are seeing a large number of gaming monitor launches, almost all of them 4K OLED with high refresh rates, but the reality is that if we leave the design aside, technically they are quite similar. ASRock has wanted to break away from the norm and has presented its new Phantom Gaming OLED monitors, which have all of this that we tell you but also incorporate a curious feature: they have wifi antennas to extend the signal strength. We will explain it to you immediately.

Nowadays, most modern PC motherboards have WiFi connectivity, and that means that on the back we can connect antennas to amplify signal reception. That in turn implies that we will have the cables and antennas swarming around, so ASRock has thought of implementing these antennas in the monitor itself, so that we can connect the PC’s WiFi card there and it will be the monitor that act as an antenna.

It is not a WiFi monitor, it is a monitor WITH WiFi antennas

It is important to make this clear, because the advertisement could lead to error and think that we are looking at a monitor that works via WiFi, without cables, but this is not the case: as we have explained before, the novelty of these ASRock monitors is that they incorporate an antenna WiFi with the usual connectors of the cables that we should connect to the PC, and it only serves for the monitor to act as an antenna, amplifying the signal. Neither more nor less. The idea is quite good, but it is not the panacea as you might imagine.

For the rest, ASRock’s Phantom Gaming series is made up of three monitors: PGO32UFS, PGO27QFS and PGO27QFV, all of them with an OLED matrix and high technical specifications:

  • PGO32UFS: It has a 32-inch diagonal with a WOLED matrix and 4K resolution at 240 Hz. It includes the now usual dual function that allows you to configure the monitor to operate at 1080p and 480 Hz, in both cases with the usual 0.03 ms response time of OLED panels. By the way, its antenna is WiFi 7.
  • PGO27QFS: This model has a 27-inch diagonal and its resolution is 1440p, with a WOLED panel. It offers a refresh rate of 240 Hz, and apart from some good ergonomic options, there is nothing special about it either.
  • PGO27QFV: This other variant also has 27 inches and 1440p resolution, but differs from the previous one in that its matrix is QD-OLED, which allows its refresh rate to be a little higher, reaching 360 Hz natively.

All of these monitors are compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 among other things. Their color coverage is around 99% DCI-P3 and 132% sRGB, and they have vision protection technologies such as Low Blue Light. All of them allow height, rotation and tilt adjustment, allowing you to place the screen in the position you want without effort, including vertically.

What ASRock has not revealed for now is the availability date or price, but you can already imagine that they will be quite expensive, like all similar models already on the market. We estimate that they will be around 900-1,200 euros.
