We are in the era of unlimited communication, and although it is true that there is still a lot of room for improvement, the small functions that are being incorporated also have an effect on our daily lives. And this is because they manage to improve the way of establishing communication between people in an increasingly simple and effective way. That is the case of the new WhatsApp feature on group voice chats. We explain more about this below.
The WhatsApp team has not taken long to implement in its stable version one of the most notable functions that they were testing in the beta: the new group voice chats. This update, which is now available to all users without the need to download trial versions, seems to have had an accelerated launch since its beta phase, showing the company’s priority to improve this tool. It is possible that it may no longer be available on some devices while the testing period ends, although it seems that it will be fully ready soon. And the truth is that it seems to work really well.
What are the new WhatsApp voice chats?
Now, within WhatsApp groups, you will find some lines just above the button to send voice messages. Tapping this small area activates the new group voice chat feature, designed to facilitate real-time interaction between multiple participants. This tool, although simple, resembles the group voice and video features that Telegram has offered for some time. However, it still has room for improvement: for example, it does not allow screen sharing, a feature present on the rival platform.
Additionally, group voice chats on WhatsApp include convenient options for managing group calls. Like for example:
- Silent group notifications: Participants can be alerted that a group voice chat has started, which appears as a group message, so it’s not too intrusive.
- Audio and microphone control: You can activate or deactivate the speaker or microphone as needed.
- Closing the group chat: A red cross-shaped button allows you to end the conversation for all participants.
Upcoming improvements
Although this feature represents an important advance, it is still a step behind Telegram in certain aspects. The absence of options such as screen sharing limits its potential for more professional or participatory uses, which could be an important area for future updates. However, its practical design and seamless integration into groups make it a welcome addition to users.
With this novelty, WhatsApp continues its strategy of catching up with its competitorsprioritizing tools that improve group communication and allow users to enjoy a more complete and secure experience. It remains to be seen if future updates will include additional features that close the gap compared to Telegram or other platforms with which it competes.
