It can detect if it can identify if someone tries to take your phone and flee on foot, by bicycle or by car. When this happens, your smartphone will automatically lock the screen so that they cannot access it or its content.
- Offline device lock. This activates if someone steals your phone and immediately deactivates WiFi. It will only be activated if the device is actively being used at the time of theft. The feature will activate twice a day to minimize accidental activations.
- Remote lock. You can visit android.com/lock if your cell phone is stolen. You will need to provide a number, confirmed during the setup process, and complete a security challenge. You can do this on the phone of a trusted person, and it will also help if you can’t log in to Find My Device with your Google account password. It’s faster than signing in to Find My Device. From there you can lock the device against theft, reset it to factory status, play sound or see where it is.
These new features are available in the Google Play Services beta version 24.40.33 and they will soon reach all Android devices with an update.
