When we talk about high-end PC coolers, DeepCool’s Assassin series has always been present. With its latest iteration, the manufacturer has earned an enormous amount of praise and positive criticism, but despite this they have continued to improve it to… well, to adapt it to the new times, we could say. So, DeepCoool has presented its new Assassin IV VC Visionwith the same quality and performance as always, but with some interesting improvements.
Depending on where you read the review and what processor they tested it with, the DeepCool Assassin IV is always among the best coolers on the market, that’s a fact. With a maximum TDP of 300W thanks to its double tower design of aluminum sheets with vapor chamber, this is undoubtedly one of the best heatsinks that can be installed on a modern processor, keeping the system at a good temperature whatever the circumstance.
So what improvements does the DeepCool Assassin IV VC Vision have?
Well, as we mentioned at the beginning, really what DeepCool has done with this new variant is adapt it to modern times, and by that what we mean is that the majority of manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon of mounting screens in their products. , as in the case of heatsinks. And the truth is, it is something that looks great and can even be useful, especially considering that most PC cases already have a tempered glass side that allows you to see the inside.
In this way, the manufacturer has incorporated a small four-segment digital display that is capable of providing real-time monitoring of the system status, including processor temperature, load percentage, watt consumption and core speed, as shown. You can see in the image that we have placed above this paragraph. It also includes visual temperature alerts: the thermometer located to the left of the temperature will shine in different colors depending on the temperature; For example, when it exceeds 90ÂșC it will flash red to attract attention.
For all this to work, of course there is an additional cable, a USB 2.0 header that must be connected internally to the motherboard. It will also be necessary to have the DeepCool software installed and running, meaning this screen will not work autonomously if you do not have the system running with the application.
For the rest, the heatsink is the usual Assassin IV, with its physical button on the top that allows you to change its two fans from normal mode to silent mode, significantly reducing the noise emitted (which is not that much, the fans are PWM 140 mm that rotate at up to 1,800 RPM and emit 29.3 dBA of maximum noise, but can be reduced to only 22.6 dBA in silent mode.
Considerations, price and availability
When we say that this is the usual Assassins IV to which they have added a screen, we say it because it really is also one of the largest and heaviest heatsinks on the market, something that you can already assume knowing that it incorporates two 140 mm fans each. . The DeepCool Assassin IV VC Vision measures 147 x 144 x 172 mm (be careful with this height) and weighs a whopping 1,780 grams.
It’s not exactly cheap either, because the manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 139.99 euros. But hey, looking at the price of any top-of-the-range liquid cooling or air cooler, we could say that it is in line with what is considered a normal price, especially when you know that you are buying one of the best heatsinks on the market.
As for availability, the manufacturer has already listed it on its website and has said that availability is immediate, but at the time of writing this article we have searched the main stores in Spain and for now it is not even listed. It will be a matter of time, you know how this goes.
