Before launching a product on the market, especially if it is a technological product, during the preliminary phase different prototypes are created until the final version is found. Generally, these test units end up being destroyed or end up in some environment as happened with the iPhone 4 what is lost in a bar before his presentation and which ended up in the hands of Gizmodo.
A few days ago, we published an article in which we talked about a RTX 4090 Ti that had been found in the trash, a gigantic graph designed to occupy up to 4 slotsa true outrage that, as we all know, never reached the market.
According to the images published by this user, the PCB is mounted in parallel to the motherboard, hence it occupies up to 4 slots and the graphic connectors They are vertical and not horizontal like practically all the graphics that NVIDIA has launched on the market.
RTX 4090 Ti specifications
When this user posted images of this Ti version of the RTX 4090, he stated that he hadn’t had a chance to try it out as he thought he was going to. Fortunately, it seems that this version does work, although, if you were expecting a beast with higher performance than the RTX 4090, we have very bad news.
The guys at Videocardz have been in contact with the user who tested this graphics model and have had access to the performance tests to which he subjected it after verifying that it works. And, apparently, technical specifications that this model has are practically the same that we can find in the RTX 4090 that hit the market.
And we say practically because they are not exactly the same. This RTX uses an older version of BIOSspecifically version 95.02.01.22.01 from June 2022, while the RTX 4090 Founder Edition uses BIOS 95.02.20.00.01 (it was released in October 2022), so it is obviously an older model that does not it passed the testing phase as it would otherwise have a more similar BIOS version.
Another important difference that reveals that it is a prototype that did not go beyond that is the clock speed. While the RTX 4090 Ti model has a base clock of 2,115 MHz and a turbo of 2,355 MHz, the RTX 4090 Founders Editionreaches 2,235 MHz base and 2,625 MHz with turbo. As for the SKU and model, this is the same in both models.
We will never know why NVIDIA scrapped this model. It is possible that using the plate in a design similar to the rest of the models was intended to improve the cooling system or even to launch a more powerful model than this one.
With the RTX 5090 around the corner and once we know what the specifications of this Ti model of the RTX 4090 are, we could conclude the topic, although that does not mean that, in the coming days, we will be able to learn more information about this exclusive model that this user found, as he claims, in a trash can.
