Do you want to renew your laptop? Intel’s 12th generation will no longer be an option

If we take a look at the laptop offerings currently available on the market, we can see how the oldest processor in Intel that is found in most of these corresponds to the 12th generation Alder Lakea processor that was launched on the market at the end of 2021 and that, 3 years behind it, has completed its useful life cycle.

12th generation Alder Lake laptop processors will be discontinued

With 4 generations of laptop processors available on the market (13th, 14th, Core Ultra Series 100 and Core Ultra Series 200), currently, it makes no sense to continue betting on such an old processor, which does not offer clock speeds as high as those we can find in The most modern models, such as Core Ultra 285 HX which reaches 5.5 GHz, a figure that was unthinkable in a laptop a few years ago.

Intel has contacted laptop manufacturers to inform them of this decision, a decision that affects families Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 with the variants OR, Q, h and H.K.in addition to the models Celeron and Pentium Gold.

However, and although there are more powerful options on the market, the high-performance range HX will not follow the same path, at least for now. Manufacturers will be able to continue placing orders until July 25 for the Intel Core models, while, for the Celeron and Pentium Gold, the date is April 25.

The end of the life cycle of the 12th generation of Intel processors, for manufacturers, will not be a serious problem since the 13th generation of Intel processor uses the same FCBGA1744 socketwhich, with the release of the 14th generation changed to FCBGA1964.

This way, manufacturers will not have to make design changes to start using the 13th generation of processors in their laptops. When the 13th generation stops manufacturing, which, as we mentioned above, uses a different socket than the 14th, the manufacturers will have problems.

Best value for money option and compatible with Windows 11

Intel’s 12th generation laptop and desktop processors support Windows 11so if you are looking for a new laptop or processor, you will not have any problems when buying it and thus enjoy the latest version currently available on the market.

That Intel has announced that the end of its useful life cycle means that it will stop manufacturing them, forcing manufacturers to lower the price of your equipment to get rid of them as quickly as possible, being an excellent opportunity if you are looking for a simple laptop without many pretensions on a daily basis and you have a tight budget.
