Google does magic with its latest update to take care of your mobile battery

The December update brings to the compatible Google Pixel one of the most anticipated functions to take care of the mobile battery. Adaptive charging allows you to limit the phone’s charge to 80% to preserve the useful life and at the same time allows use phone while charging without any type of problem, thus putting an end to one of the main drawbacks of cable charging.

The mobile battery faces all kinds of problems throughout the day, from poor charging practices to inappropriate use of the phone. This and other conditions affect the battery wear and long-term life. It is a fact that it has a specific useful life that is defined by the popular charging cycles that indicate how many times a battery can be charged until it stops working.

This is a great fear for many users, who have chosen to take good care of their smartphone. so that the autonomy is extended as much as possible. Until now, one of these measures was to stop using the phone while it is charging, but you will no longer have to worry about this issue if you have a Google Pixel as your personal phone.

The phone does not use the battery while charging

In case you still didn’t know, leaving your phone connected to the charger all day is destroying the battery little by little, since it constantly reduces and increases its percentage. This means that, once 100% is reached, the smartphone stops charging until it drops to 99%so you will be wearing down the battery non-stop.

On the other hand, the phone uses current to charge the battery, but it is the battery that is responsible for supplying the energy necessary to keep the device on. The latest Android update in December for Google Pixel phones breaks with this and allows the phone use the charging cable as a power source and not the battery. This condition allows you to use the mobile phone while charging without any fear of the battery suffering any long-term damage due to the charging cycles experienced.

How to activate the 80% charge function

We already knew about adaptive charging as a novelty to preserve battery life, but we were not aware of the (positive) side effect it had for the phone. It has taken a little longer than expected to arrive in Spain, although it is finally official and you can access the option in question from the settings, as long as you have updated your Google Pixel to the latest version of Android 15 if it is compatible.

The instructions to enable this feature and use the mobile phone with the cable connected without fear are as follows:

  1. Open the settings on your Google Pixel.
  2. Select the Battery section.
  3. Click on Load optimization.
  4. Check the Limit to 80% option.

It should be noted that, despite the advantage of this feature, it is advisable to disconnect the phone charger once it reaches 80%. It’s not necessary and the battery won’t go down so fast that it dies before you leave the house.
