SK Hynix launches its fastest SSD to date… for now only in Korea

Although SK Hynix It is not unknown to any hardware fan, it is true that it seems that they do not have their own products, and that they only manufacture memory components for third parties. However, they do sell their own products, including the new Platinum P51the fastest SK Hynix SSD to date, which has already been presented in South Korea.

Actually, this SSD was already unveiled in March, but it was not until now that the manufacturer has launched it on the market, even if it is only in South Korea. This seems to be a fairly common practice in Asian countries, who usually launch their products first in their country of origin and then, when they see how they are doing, they decide whether to launch it internationally or not.

SK Hynix’s fastest SSD

Let’s get into the matter. As you can imagine, the SK Hynix Platinum P51 is an SSD with a PCIe 5.0 interface, and according to the manufacturer it is capable of offering speeds of up to 14.7 GB/s reading and 13.4 GB/s writing, placing it among the fastest in the world. As for its random read and write speeds, it offers up to 2,300K IOPS and 2,400K IOPS respectively.

These values are really good, especially if we compare them with the PCIe 5.0 SSDs currently on the market, most of them with Phison E26 controller.

However, not everything is good news because then it has other values that are not exactly so striking, such as its durability: 1,200 TBW in the 2 TB model, just as disappointing as any other SSD on the market, which means that SK Hynix hasn’t made any progress in terms of durability, even though they theoretically use the manufacturer’s next-generation 238-layer 3D TLC NAND chips.

By the way, it is also notable that the 2 TB model is the one with the highest capacity they offer at the moment (there are also 1 TB and 500 GB models). As for the price, at the moment nothing is known, but the news has come to the fore precisely because they have already seen it for sale in South Korea and, in fact, the screenshot above of the Crystal Disk Mark has been taken by a buyer in the Asian country.

Korean with SSD

As for its availability in the rest of the world, as we have mentioned before, unfortunately we cannot tell you anything for now. Asian manufacturers have the habit of launching their products first in their home countries and, depending on their success, then decide whether to extend their sales to the rest of the countries in the world. Something similar happens with the price, and although as we have mentioned they are already buying it in South Korea, no one has published the price and we have not been able to find it in stores either, so unfortunately we cannot tell you anything about it.

As almost always, it happens, we can only continue waiting for SK Hynix to see if the SSD sells well or not so they can decide whether to bring it to the rest of the countries.
