During the past year 2024, the rise of AI boosted the value of many hardware companies, with NVIDIA undoubtedly benefiting the most. However, there are many contenders in this industry, and although most of them probably sound safe, you will be surprised when you learn their value. In this article we tell you everything in depth.
Many of us know that companies like NVIDIA, Intel, IBM, Microsoft or AMD are extremely valuable, but almost none of us have an idea of how much. Fortunately, there are those who are dedicated to obtaining this type of statistics and thus being able to empirically measure how valuable a company is, so we are going to proceed to get into the matter by focusing on the companies that are dedicated to this hardware.
The most valuable hardware companies in the world
As we have anticipated before, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the rise of AI is NVIDIA, and in fact during 2024 it became the most valuable company in the world ahead of giants such as Google, Apple or Amazon. Its capital is huge, but it has dozens of competitors, some of whom are on its heels relatively close, so let’s see it in the form of a graph courtesy of CompaniesMarketCap, with data extracted precisely from the market capitalization of each of them. These data were taken as of December 30, 2024.
Indeed, NVIDIA It is the most valuable company with a capitalization of 3.4 trillion dollars, followed by Broadcom with 1.1 trillion and TSMC with 1 trillion. I don’t know about you, but whoever signed this article was surprised to see Broadcom so high, in second position, don’t you think?
In comparison, other “giants” of the industry such as Samsung, AMD or Intel are far behind with 240 billion, 199 billion and 85 billion respectively. It is surprising that at this moment Intel capitalizes less than half that of AMD taking into account the situation that both companies had before the arrival of Lisa Su at the helm of AMD… and now we understand many things when they told us about Intel’s financial problems . Not because 85,000 million is little or much less, but because we thought (personally) that they were much higher.
And companies like ARM, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Micron, Marvell or ASML are well above the blue silicon giant, and even much less well-known names such as Analog Devices, Lam Research or Applied Materials have a capitalization well above.
What is more than clear is the distribution of the value of hardware companies by country: the United States takes the cake, followed by Taiwan. South Korea also has a decent piece of the pie, as does the Netherlands thanks to ASML. The United Kingdom thanks to ARM also has a small portion, larger than China has with SMIC and other small manufacturers. Japan, Germany and the rest of the world rank above China, in fact.
Anyway, looking at this graph, everyone can draw their own conclusions. The truth is that we personally have been more than surprised when we see these figures, since to begin with we did not think that NVIDIA would have such an advantage over the rest, nor did we expect to see Intel or even Samsung so far below. What do you think?
