The AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT with RDNA4, on par with the RTX 4080?

In recent days, and despite the fact that AMD officially announced that it was going to stop competing with NVIDIA in the high-end graphics cards, rumors and leaks are happening around the hypothetical AMD Radeon RX 8800 XTthe new high-end graphics card from AMD that would arrive sooner rather than later with the new RDNA4 graphics architecture. Now, new rumors have emerged around this graph, and they place it in terms of performance at the height of the RTX 4080 from NVIDIA… could it be true?

Just a few hours ago, SeaSonic listed this graph with a 220W TDP in its power calculator for power supplies in a sign that we can consider quite unequivocal that the graph, indeed, not only exists but is in the making. A couple of months ago, this manufacturer did the same with NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series, but within a few hours they removed them from their calculator, so hopefully the same thing will happen now. But let’s get to it…

The Radeon RX 8800 XT at the level of NVIDIA’s top graphics

Let’s put aside the fact that we’re just talking about assumptions, and let’s also put aside that NVIDIA is expected to unveil its next generation of RTX 50 Series graphics cards in just a month. The fact is that AMD officially announced that it was going to stop trying to compete with NVIDIA in the high-end segment of graphics cards to focus on the mid-range, which is actually the one that sells the most and brings the most benefits, so The fact that a new rumor ensures that its RX 8800 XT, which would not be the top graphics card of the generation, competes with an RTX 4080 is no small thing.

Theoretically, and if we go by the rumors and leaks, the AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT will be launched in the first quarter of next year, and will come with the RDNA4 architecture under its belt. It would be equipped with a Navi 48 XT chip with 4096 Stream Processors, as well as 16 GB of GDDR6 or GDDR6X memory with a 256-bit bus that would give an effective speed of 20 Gbps. Now, with the latest leak from SeaSonic, it is known that its TDP will be 220W, and it will be powered by two 8-pin PCIe connectors from the power supply, although the latter is also not entirely clear because they could adopt the 12VHPWR connector.

With all this hypothetical data in hand, ChipHell forum user zhangzhonghao, known for having been right a thousand times in his assumptions and leaks, and for the useful information he provides, assures that the Radeon RX 8800 will go into production in mass in the middle of this month with the aim of being in stores at the end of January or beginning of February. They also say that its level of performance would be on par with the RTX 4080 or even its SUPER variant in “conventional games.”

For example, it states that the Radeon RX 8800 XT would be up to 45% more powerful than a Radeon RX 7900 And AMD would have made a notable effort to improve its hardware for Ray Tracing in this next generation.

We’ll see what happens in the end, but for us, the users, I would say things are looking pretty good; If NVIDIA launches its new generation of graphics without opposition from AMD, well you already know what will happen: that they will do what they want with the market and especially with prices. But if AMD is able to stand up to them, even if it is in the medium and medium-high range as would be the case in this graph, then those in green will have to push to gain their share of the market share. And for us even better, because that would mean better graphics at better prices, right?
