I have taken one surprise when updating my mobile to Android 15 and it is not due to the extensive list of new features that it includes for everyone, including new security measures to protect your personal information in case of theft, private space for applications, archiving apps to save storage, screen shortcut game… But none of these features have surprised me, what has surprised me is the battery improvement that my phone has experienced.
As a general rule, the first days after a major update are usually lethal for the autonomy of mobile phones because they need to be optimized to obtain the best possible performance. However, since I updated my Google Pixel 8a several weeks ago I have noticed how much longer the battery lasts.
Android 15 improves the battery
It is common to read from manufacturers that with the arrival of new system updates, performance and autonomy improvements are also included, although most of the time they are not significant enough to be noticed at the first change. Surprisingly, Android 15 does represent a drastic increase in autonomy of the device and it seems to me a compelling reason to update your phone as soon as possible.
The battery of the Google Pixel 8a is not exactly small for a compact model. The capacity of 4,492 mAh translates into a duration that easily reaches 6 hours of screen time, but it is difficult reach the full 7 hours. This has ceased to be an illusion and has become a reality with the Android 15 update and from day one I noticed it instantly when I looked at the battery percentage after finishing my work day, which used to be much lower before.
Be careful with the model
For my part, I would recommend that everyone update their mobile phone to Android 15, but we must keep in mind that the version is not identical for all devices. Within the Google catalog there is not much difference, although the rest of the manufacturers apply a customization layer on Android that also influences performance of the system and autonomy. This means that on a phone from another brand you may not notice the battery improvement too much, while on a Google Pixel I assure you that you will enjoy it.
It is true that it is not a 2 or 3 hour improvement, but the battery of my Google Pixel 8a is more resistant and takes longer in lowering the percentage, gaining approximately 1 hour more autonomy and I am very grateful for it. This is why it is important to check the experience and opinion of other users with the update and thus know perfectly if it is convenient for you to update your device. There are many models that suffer from battery problems in the first few days until they end up being optimized, so we should not overlook this aspect and not throw our hands into our heads at the first change.
