The biggest detractor of Pat Gelsinger’s management, Intel’s new CEO?

Just the day before yesterday we told you that a storm has broken out in Intel’s management leadership, with its CEO who has “resigned” or rather been invited to resign, and with the appointment of two temporary co-CEOs. Of course the waters are now troubled, and it is normal that names are beginning to be sounded for the successor of Pat Gelsinger as Intel CEO…and the most curious thing is that the name that is being heard has turned this into a whole soap opera.

Gelsinger’s departure as head of Intel has resonated everywhere, both because of the surprise that this is in itself and because of the way in which it came out. And, from what it seems, Pat Gelsinger had quite a few antagonists who did not agree with the management he has led in the last three years, but what we did not expect is that one of his biggest detractors would run as his replacement, and less so fast.

Lip-Bu Tan could be the new CEO of Intel

As a temporary measure after Gelsinger resigned as head of the company, Intel’s leadership appointed David Zinsner and Michelle Hohnston Holthaus as co-CEOs, because you know, someone has to be in charge at all times. However, as we said, these have been temporary appointments and no one is surprised that Intel is already looking for a new CEO to take the reins of the company.

There are several candidates for this, and although no final decision has been made yet, the name that resonates the most is that of Lip-Bu Tana veteran investor in the technology industry and former CEO of Cadence Design Systems. Lip-Bu Tan played a key role in transforming Cadence into a thriving company, and is quite respected in the tech sector, with several awards in his career, so it’s no surprise that he has become one of the top candidates.

Lip-Bu Tan was part of Intel’s leadership for two years, but then decided to take on greater responsibilities in the company’s manufacturing arm. During that time, Lip-Bu Tan is known to have been one of the most vocal critics of Pat Gelsinger’s decisions on several fronts, including the company’s strategy, internal culture, and even employee numbers. The most curious thing is that this person has never run a large company the size of Intel.

Of course, at this point, surely no one is surprised by the situation. This person harshly criticized the CEO and what is already being discussed in online gossip is that he possibly pulled certain strings to pressure Gelsinger’s departure and take power in a plot worthy of a soap opera. We are not saying that this is the case, of course this whole issue may have developed organically and naturally, but the truth is that it is difficult not to think about the soap opera.
