The essentials to get started as a professional streamer

Many users aspire to become successful streamers, either enjoying their favorite games or sharing their knowledge. The first thing we must do, before anything else, is to have equipment that offers a minimum of quality so that both the voice and the image are shown with the best possible quality.

Surely on some occasion you have come to a channel where the image looks pixelated due to using a low resolution and/or the sound quality of the streamer leaves much to be desired, and you have quickly looked for other options. If you don’t want this to happen to you and you want to offer the best experience to your potential subscribers, you can’t miss the devices we show you below.

PC

At a minimum, it is advisable to opt for a processor that has 8 cores and 16 threads, the best option on the market being the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. But if it is out of your budget, another cheaper and less powerful option is the Ryzen 7 5700X3D which costs half.

To transmit, we can use a less powerful computer, both in terms of processor and graphics. In fact, we can use any portable that we have at home by sending the game signal from the PC with which we play to the laptop that we use to transmit from the network using the NDI function of OBS.

As for RAM, the minimum required is 16 GB. Obviously, it is necessary to have a powerful graphics card, the range being RTX 40 from NVIDIA the recommended option, especially if we are only going to use one PC to play and stream at the same time. If we do not want to complicate our lives by assembling a PC from scratch, especially if we do not have knowledge of the subject, we can buy an already assembled computer from PcComponentes.

Microphone

The first thing you should do is forget to use the headphones with a microphone that you usually use. The quality that we can find inside these microphones leaves a lot to be desired compared to any other dedicated microphone that we can find on Amazon for about 40 or 60 euros. These microphones connect to the USB port and are generally unidirectional, so they only cover our voice and not that of our environment.

Webcam

If you want to use a laptop to begin with, you should not use the built-in webcam. The webcam that most laptops incorporate does not offer a resolution higher than 720p and they offer very low quality compared to any webcam that we can buy for about 20 or 30 euros. Ideally, it should have autofocus, especially if we move too much, but it is not strictly necessary.

Second monitor

So that the transmission is as fluid as possible and you do not have to switch between desktops and the image being transmitted freezes, it is advisable to use two monitors. The second monitor is used to monitor the transmission, see the comments, switch between scenes and so on, so it is not necessary for it to be a gaming monitor with a high refresh rate, and a 60 Hz one is more than enough.

Software

As for the software, a fundamental part to transmit on any platform, the most recommended option is OBSa completely free open source software that has a large number of customization options, all of them free of charge and with a large community of users behind it.

Although it is true that there are other applications such as Streamlabs from Logitech, this includes payment options. Twitch Studio, the official application of this platform only allows you to broadcast on this platform and not on others at the same time such as YouTube or even TikTok.
