The Intel Core Ultra 200S are now official: everything you need to know

Obviously, the press release that Intel has sent to the media is based on the AI capabilities of the new generation, the fashionable topic. But there are actually many other more interesting things, really interesting for us, PC users and consumers, so this is what we are going to focus on in this article.

The same power (more or less) but with much lower consumption

A very important fact that you should know is that in this generation of processors, Intel has eliminated the HyperThreadingwhich means that we no longer have cores capable of executing two tasks in parallel. In return, the core count is much higher, and Intel also boasts of having significantly increased the IPC, especially in the E cores, the efficient ones.

In short, the Intel Core Ultra 200S are processors that will give us performance quite similar to the previous generation, with improvements or detriments depending on the scenario, application or game, but what we find very, very interesting is the increase in efficiency, because according to Intel data these processors are much fresherwith up to 17ºC less temperature, and with a reduced consumption up to 165W. This is excellent news, because processors like the Core i9-14900K delivered extraordinary performance, yes, but they were almost always above 90ºC and with uncontrolled consumption.

Of course, we are also facing an improvement in performance in general, especially in the efficiency E cores, although the reality is that the expected performance is quite similar to the current generation. In any case, we will see this very soon because we can now confirm that we will test them first-hand and will publish our own performance results when the time comes.

Processors and specifications

In total, Intel launches 5 processors initially, one Core Ultra 9, two Core Ultra 7 and two Core Ultra 5, which although they have changed names, would be the equivalent to the Core i9, Core i7 and Core i5 respectively. Below we leave you its official specifications in table form.

Processor Cores/Threads Base Speed (P Cores / E Cores) Boost Speed (P Cores / E Cores) Cache (L3/L2) TDP (PL1/PL2) Price
Core Ultra 9 285K 24/24 (8P+16E) 3.7/3.2GHz 5.7/4.6GHz 36MB / 40MB 125W/250W $589 US
Core Ultra 7 265K 20/20 (8P+12E) 3.9/3.3GHz 5.4/4.6GHz 30MB/36MB 125W/250W $394 US
Core Ultra 7 265KF 20/20 (8P+12E) 3.9/3.3GHz 5.4/4.6GHz 30MB/36MB 125W/250W $379 US
Core Ultra 5 245K 14/14 (6P+8E) 4.2/3.6GHz 5.2/4.6GHz 24MB / 26MB 125W/159W $309 US
Core Ultra 5 245KF 14/14 (6P+8E) 4.2/3.6GHz 5.2/4.6GHz 24MB / 26MB 125W/159W $294 US

If we compare the specifications and price of this new generation of processors with respect to the previous one, the Core Ultra 200S have prices quite similar to those of the Intel Core 14, although we still have to confirm the prices in Euros at which we can buy them in Spain (we will update this article as soon as we have the information).

As for the specifications, the big change is that, as we mentioned before, HyperThreading disappears, but in exchange the core count is somewhat higher, and especially with a large increase in IPC in the E cores that will probably mean that it will not we need to have more process threads.

In any case, as we have mentioned before, when the Intel embargo ends, we will present our own performance, temperature and consumption data in our usual review.
