The ceremony of The Game Awards This year has brought a good handful of new features and the odd surprise, but certainly one of the most anticipated has been the first trailer for The Witcher IVwhich in this case will not star Geralt like the first three, but rather his pupil, Ciri. But as hardware fans, we are going to stay with the most technical part: the game scenes that can be seen in the trailer have been taken with Unreal Engine 5 using one of the new GeForce RTX 50. Yes, those same ones that we all hope NVIDIA will officially announce at CES 2025, in early January.
At this point, everything related to the next generation of NVIDIA graphics cards is pure rumor, leak or speculation. However, it is an open secret that the company has been working on it for some time, and in fact, as we have already mentioned, it is expected to officially announce it at the beginning of January. All in all, what we have now been able to see in this trailer confirms the fact that these graphics are closer than ever.
The Witcher IV with an NVIDIA RTX 50
The Witcher IV will be the first video game in the saga that will not have the charismatic Geralt of Rivia as the protagonist; In this case, it will be his pupil, Cirilla, whom we will manage (we already did it during a part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it must be said). But an interesting fact, and that in fact we can read (in English) as soon as we put on the trailer, is that although it is cinematic (that is, it does not really show scenes from the game) the scenes have been rendered using the graphics engine Unreal Engine 5 with an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card not yet announced… and what could it be? Well, an RTX 50 Series for sure, let’s go.
Although CD Projekt Red has not given more information, and the unknowns of the release date or platforms remain just that, unknowns, they have revealed two quite important things: on the one hand, that the game seems to be being developed with the Unreal engine Engine 5, and on the other hand, that in some way NVIDIA could be involved in the development, otherwise how would CD Projekt Red have access to the brand’s graphics that have not even been announced yet.
This is quite common, you already know that both NVIDIA, Intel and AMD usually get involved in the development of some games to optimize performance with their products and thus give users a reason to choose them over the competition. By the way, although nothing is known about the release date, it is known that the company has only started the complete development of the game a few weeks ago, so it is possible that it will take us many months to hear back from The Witcher IV.
There are some other interesting things that are revealed
Now sticking to The Witcher IV itself, the trailer has confirmed some pretty interesting things. For example:
- The protagonist will be Ciri and not Geralt, as we have said before.
- Ciri eventually becomes a Witch, even though that was something that was speculated in The Witcher 3 story and never came to pass. She is seen using signs and drinking concoctions, two unequivocal things that she is a Witch no matter what.
- The official name is also confirmed: The Witcher IV (note, IV and no 4).
- Seeing Ciri in the trailer, she looks a few years older than she was in The Witcher 3, which suggests that it is the sequel to the third part. How they will explain Ciri’s return and where Geralt is after the end of The Witcher 3 is currently unknown.
Aside from this, CD Projekt Red has said that this will be the most immersive game in the world of The Witcher in history, although that doesn’t tell us much either. We understand that they are talking about magnitude, and the truth is, if the third part was already enormous…
